If you’re getting back in the travel groove for the first time since the pandemic started, you might be a little sad to learn that some of the pre-pandemic airline snacks you know and love may be gone for good. You might even be more sad to learn that while some airlines are returning their inflight snack and beverage services to normal (hi Delta), others are cutting it even more (we’re looking at you, American). If you’re booking a business trip any time soon, here’s what you can expect when it comes to the inflight service and your food and bev options.
ALASKA
On flights longer than 350 miles, drink service is back!
Complimentary
- Soft drinks, juices, Starbucks coffee and Teavana tea in all cabins
- Beer, wine, spirits and mixers in Premium and First Class
For Purchase
- Alcohol is available for purchase in the Main Cabin for $7.50 a drink
- On all flights over 783 miles, snacks like Mediterranean tapas, popcorn, chips, and almonds are available for purchase on board
- For trips over 1,500 miles, passengers can choose from food options including a wrap, breakfast sandwich, salad, fruit and cheese platter, and protein platters (but keep in mind that these options must be pre-purchased from 2 weeks until 20 hours prior to departure)
AMERICAN
American has been slower to bring back in-flight services. In fact, just this week they announced that they would be scaling back on their offerings. Typically for flights greater than 1,500 miles, the cabin crew comes around twice for beverage service. Well, not anymore. Until at least April, there will be just one round of in-flight service, regardless of the length of the flight.
Typically, both the flight length and the cabin you’ve purchased a ticket in determine how generous the service can be. Cutting to the chase, unless you’re flying on a long-haul international flight in the main cabin, you’re not going to be able to get much.
