Canada Will Welcome Back Fully Vaccinated Americans in August

Current as of 9/17/21

Canada is officially welcoming back American travelers. Starting on August 9th, business travelers who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 may cross the border once again (you’re considered fully vaccinated two weeks after your final vaccine dose). U.S. citizens who meet the requirement will not need to quarantine upon arrival.

And although this is great news, vaccinated travelers will still face some strict requirements before they are granted entry. All travelers will need to provide proof of a negative COVID test result taken within 72 hours of departure. Travelers also must use the ArriveCAN app to submit their travel information, along with a quarantine plan (should it be necessary). Be sure to go over the entry requirements well in advance of your trip to make sure you have all the proper documentation.

Assuming this first step goes to plan, the Canadian government says they will allow fully vaccinated travelers from all countries to travel to Canada by early September, too.

And Canadian travelers are now facing a similar requirement: all Canadian citizens who are traveling by commercial air will soon need to be vaccinated in order to do so. The Canadian Transport Minister recently announced this policy - no exact date has been set yet, but it’s stated that this will happen no later than the end of October. This policy will also apply to flight crews working in the airline industry, cruise ship passengers, and those on trains between provinces.

It’s been over a year since U.S. citizens were allowed to visit Canada and there’s a lot of excitement around this announcement. But if you’re planning a long overdue business trip to our northern neighbor, be sure to double check your passport expiration date. And if you have any questions about what you might need for entry, feel free to reach out to someone on our team - we’re ready to help!
