Last week we examined American Airlines fare differences by fare brand between AmTrav's NDC connection (with lower fares) and legacy booking tools (with higher fares), found that corporate customers who can't access American's best fares via a booking platform like AmTrav are paying substantially more not only in Basic Economy and Economy, but also premium Economy Flexible, First and First Flexible brands.
This week let's dig into Economy fares, which make up the overwhelming majority of corporate and AmTrav sales. Do we see a pattern within Economy fares – do customers who book cheaper or more expensive Economy fares save more or less with access to American's best fares via AmTrav?
In short: no. American fares are consistently between 14%-18% cheaper (close to the 17% overall average) for Economy fares between $100 and $900, which make up 96% of AmTrav's American Economy fares sold.
The frequency (how often NDC fares via AmTrav are lower than fares in legacy booking tools) is similarly consistent, ranging in from 30%-39% with an overall average 32%.
So what? Every corporate customer, whether they purchase the cheapest Economy fares or the most-expensive premium fares, is paying substantially more for their travel on American Airlines because they rely on legacy corporate platforms that aren't connected to American's NDC technology.
